Ryan Crouser broke his personal Olympic report on his option to defending his shot put title Thursday on a sizzling day in Tokyo.
On his final try, Crouser went 23.30 metres (76 toes, 5½ inches) to earn the primary monitor and area gold medal for the American males on the Tokyo Video games.
US teammate Joe Kovacs completed second and Tomas Walsh of New Zealand was third.
The 28-year-old Crouser went 22.52 meters when he gained on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Video games.
Crouser is already the world-record holder after breaking a 31-year-old mark on June 18 on the US Olympic trials. His try that night went 23.37 meters.
Within the stifling warmth on the Olympic Stadium, Crouser took the lead on his first try and saved his greatest for his last one. He clapped his fingers — sending chalk mud into the air — and celebrated. He even donned his cowboy hat for the event.
His household and associates gathered for a watch social gathering in Redmond, Oregon. Carrying “Crouser” shirts, they let loose the most important cheer of all when the commentators introduced these magical phrases: “Gold Medalist.”
He was competing with a heavy coronary heart after his grandfather not too long ago died. On a chunk of paper, Crouser had a heartfelt message: “Grandpa. We did it. 2020 Olympic champion!”. — AP
